Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the brand-new, beautiful Clarendon Elementary School! Student achievement in all areas of study is our highest priority. At Clarendon, we believe that all students can AND will learn! Our professional staff is committed to reaching the district's achievement goals.   Each day, we are going a bit further on our “Drive Towards Excellence” and hope to move from our state designation of Effective to one of ‘EXCELLENT’ this year.

Clarendon Elementary students and staff chose a theme to follow throughout the 2007-2008 school year.  This year’s theme, Have a Ball with Learning! will have us studying many types of sports and allow all students to be part of the Clarendon TEAM.

As many of you know by now, our brand new building will be ready for students this fall.  I can’t wait to see the faces of the kids as they enter the new building.  It is amazing!  Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the building tours on Tuesday, August 21at 9:00 a.m. until noon.  Our FALL KICK OFF Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at these events and beginning our very successful 2007-2008 school year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Nicole Herberghs, Principal

Clarendon Can Give Back!

Did you know you can help feed a family and brush up on your vocabulary skills at the same time? It's hard to believe - but TRUE!

FreeRice is a sister site of the world poverty site, Poverty.com.

FreeRice has two goals:

  1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
  2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the sponsors who advertise on this site.

Summer Reading

Parents - Are you looking for a way to keep your kids reading this summer. If so check out Scholastic Summer reading. Keep your kids turning the pages all summer long! Just choose the grade your child will enter this fall, and find printable best bets for summer reading. There are games, celebrity interviews, discussion boards, and so much more. Best of all, for every 4 books your child reads and logs, Scholastic will donate 1 book to a child in need.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a great Valentine's Party. Thank you to all the room parents who helped out!

Book Swap to Benefit Aultman Hospital

Student Council is sponsoring a Book Swap! Bring in your gently used books the week of February 25. For every book you bring, you will receive a coupon for a BRAND NEW BOOK! Coupons can be redeemed Monday, March 3. Your gently used books will be donated to Aultman Hospital. Please help our Student Council in their community service project.

Thank You to Our Community Volunteers!

The Clarendon community would like to thank our volunteers from Union Metal. Each week, they came in to work with second grade students on building words and spelling. Our school is so fortunate to have members of the business community who are willing to share their time and expertise. Thank you!

Clarendon Students and Staff Support Our Troops

Since the beginning of this school year, staff and students have been bringing in items to send to a platoon in Iraq. We adopted Mrs. Ratliff's son-in-laws' platoon. His name is Nicolas Mavrakis and he is a former Clarendon student.  There are about 30 members in this platoon and they really appreciate the things we've sent.  Also, some of the second graders sent letters at Christmas time and the first grade classes have Valentines ready to send.  Some of the Clarendon staff has been taking turns paying for the postage. We have tried to send two or three small packages each month. It has been a good school project. Hopefully, we can continue to send things until the end of the school year. If you would like to contribute to this project, please contact the main office for a list of needed items.

Did you know?

Clarendon Elementary School has video announcements. Everyday our "Anchor" hosts a morning show for our 450+ students. Students are kept up to date on the weather, lunch menu, and upcoming school events. We are also introduced to MVPs in our school. Every Clarendon student will have the opportunity to tell the school a little about themselves. We have met some FABULOUS kids! Before signing off for the day, we join the host for the Pledge Allegience and Peace Builder's pledge. Look out Today Show!
